A lot of people take breaks in the summer...
But not The Break Room!
Hey y’all it’s us again! (John and Alec). Summer can certainly be a great time for some R&R before everyone makes a push to close out the year strong, but the fun never stops on LinkedIn, so we’re here with another edition of The Break Room! Let’s go!
MVP (Most Vulnerable Poster)

MVP (Most Vulnerable Poster) of the week goes Jess Coffman- Jess is so good at keeping it real on LinkedIn that it’s honestly hard to pick just one post, but check out this one for starters. So what makes Jess such an absolute legend on LinkedIn and someone you’ve got to follow ASAP? Let’s take a look:
She is NOT SCARED: Jess isn’t shy about firing off a hot take and sticking by that take. For better or worse, hot takes work on LinkedIn and Jess knows it- we’re all playing a game on LI and Jess plays it incredibly well
Variety: Jess’s posts really run the gamut. Sometimes she’ll fire off one of the aforementioned hot takes, sometimes she’ll provide an absolute gem of knowledge that eComm founders really need, and sometimes she’ll just complain about something relatable that bugs all of us on this platform. Point being, she shows up differently all the time and that makes people excited and curious for what’ll happen the next time Jess shows up in her feed!
Think you’re an expert? Show us!: Jess frequently provides little previews of the work she does for DTC brands by sharing pearls of wisdom via LI posts. This is a great way to show your audience that you have the goods- too many people claim to be “experts” and put everything behind a wall in the form of a booking link to “learn more” but not Jess. We can all learn a lot from her varied, thoughtful, and most importantly consistent approach to LinkedIn content!

Least Robotic Sounding Company
Least Robotic Sounding Company of the week goes to beehiiv. In the interest of full disclosure, Alec works at beehiiv and we are of course writing this newsletter on beehiiv. Having said that, their content is just too good not to step back and appreciate! You genuinely never know what beehiiv is going to do next on LinkedIn, and that is exactly why they are a very deserving “least robotic” winner this week. Many of beehiiv’s posts are truly helpful pieces of content about how to build a successful media business, which is a great way to stand out on LinkedIn. But what puts them over the edge as truly non-robotic is the silliness they share like the screenshot below. Your audience wants to learn, but as we’ve said before, they also want to have fun! beehiiv killed it on the silliness front this week, and for that we salute them 🐝 🤖 🚫.

Oddest thing we saw this week (weird flex!)
As this recent Economic Times article outlined, a tech CEO recently caught some heat for a very unusual reason. This CEO “bragged” about purposely not following up with candidates his company was thinking of hiring as a “test of their proactivity.” Not surprisingly, people had some very visceral reactions. Some people praised him and said it was a brilliant way to see how badly someone wanted a job, while others stated it was disrespectful and sneaky. TBH, the job market seems crazy enough without execs playing “tricks” during the hiring process, but what do y’all think? Fair game or deceitful hiring practice?

Parting thoughts: Add value first, figure the rest out later: With the rapidly changing digital landscape we are all navigating, it can be tough to keep up with the trends of the day. But one thing never changes- if you lead with value, people will FLOCK. Focus on adding value for everyone you meet regardless of what they might be able to do for you, and the results will follow closely behind!
Have an amazing week y’all!
