MVP (Most Vulnerable Poster)

MVP (Most Vulnerable Poster) of the week goes to this post from Eric Harrison, Founder of Thrive. Eric shares a ton of raw, unfiltered content about the ups and downs of founder life and really gave people a great peek under the hood with this one. With many people masquerading as “experts” and “thought leaders” on LinkedIn, here’s why Eric’s post resonated so well with dozens of fellow founders (us included!):

  • No fear: It can be a little scary to truly talk about the hard times on LinkedIn, and Eric had no issue doing that here. He talks about the fact that in the early days of his business, he didn’t feel like he was really growing- not an easy thing to admit!

  • He talks about how he bounced back: Just talking about the hard times is a sure fire way to bum your audience out and leave them walking a way totally uninspired. But Eric shows founders who are going through this that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and encourages them to find their people. Walking us through the lows but talking about how he turned them into highs is an amazing way to be vulnerable but also inspire others on the same journey Awesome stuff from Eric!

Least Robotic Sounding Company

Least Robotic Sounding Company of the week goes to Hubspot: Hubspot is of course a multibiliion dollar, well established public company and it would be easy enough for them to just play it safe all the time on LinkedIn But this LinkedIn post is part of a very clear, intentional strategy for Hubspot’s LinkedIn presence. They do a great job of being silly on a regular basis, while also sprinkling in some more professional, more informative info about the product mix. The silliness, helps them build their impressive audience, and they monetize it by getting serious once every often. Awesome example that can be followed by companies of all sizes!

Oddest thing we saw this week (in a good way!)

No Boring Brands founder Aidan Brannigan is always good for some odd stuff to break up the monotony on LinkedIn, and this week was no different! In this post, Aidan seemingly starts to wade into the AI notetaker debate, then he takes a hard left turn as he often does so well. Here’s how we can all learn a thing or two from Aidan:

  • Keep it topical: There has been a lot of discussion on LinkedIn lately about the use of AI notetakers, and Aidan started this post by making it seem like he was diving into that debate. This is a great way to get peoples’ attention by riding the wave of an ongoing discussion!

  • The element of surprise: About halfway through this post, this story takes a WILD turn that nobody saw coming. As we all know, it can be hard to hold the average LinkedIn user’s attention for more than a few seconds, but changing course aggressively like this made us want to keep reading to see what the heck he was going to say next!

  • Land the plane: Not only did Aidan hold his audience’s attention with the wild turn in this story, he actually did something with that attention via a call to action (CTA). Aidan’s CTA is very subtle and yet very clear- he sells to CMOs and he wants you to tell any CMO you know to book a call with him. Great job of injecting some fun and levity into a post and then capitalizing on the audience he captured!

Parting thoughts: Be Kind. LinkedIn can be a confusing place, especially for folks that are just really starting to ramp up their usage of the platform and getting their feet under them. We could all use a little more kindness out there, so the next time you get a DM and think about ignoring it- say hey instead! You never know where it could lead 👋🏻.

Have an amazing week y’all!
